First let me talk about how I got into this mess. I had used the thunderbolt as my phone previously and had rooted it, installing custom roms quite frequently. After getting a new phone, I decided to unroot my thunderbolt and give it to a family member. At first, everything was working fine; I had no problems unrooting the phone. However, a month or so later of the phone in my family member's hands, the phone's issues started.

Upon booting, the phone goes straight to hboot where it displays a security warning. But this only happens sometimes as occasionally it does not display the security warning in hboot and other times it will actually boot but take about 20+ minutes to start up where it come to the homescreen without a solid black background, soon to freeze and turn off.

I have tried fixing the phone based off methods others used to fix similar issues, but to no avail. For example, I have tried flashing the original firmware through hboot only to have the same problems occur. Perhaps I did not use the right version. Do you guys have any idea on how I can fix this?

some relevant info for the phone:
hboot version - 1.05.0000
radio - 1.49.00.0406w_1

edit - i tried flashing the RUU in the thread below but upon rebooting it went straight to hboot with security warning.

Hello everyone,

I've just joined this forum looking for some help. If I'm posting in the wrong place, please let me know.

Yesterday I noticed my HTC Thunderbolt phone restart randomly and then hang at the white HTC boot screen. I hadn't touched the thing for hours. Now I try to reboot with everything--leaving the SD card out, booting with a USB connection, with/without battery (no idea if any of these things even matter). Verizon store didn't help at all, as expected, and I don't have warranty on this thing anymore.

I tried grabbing the latest RUU image file (version 2.xxxx.19) and sticking it on my SD card. I get the "Main version is older!" message when it reads it though.

I'm wondering what my options are. Feel free to suggest technical options or other non-technical ones too.

Was on an internet forum page and somehow dragged it off screen (up?) and it showed up on my home page as an app. Not sure how I did it and can't seem to do it again.

So, for example, from Google home page, somehow drag it off screen and that page shows up on one of my phone homepages. It looks like just another app similar to Camera and Maps.

What I want to know is the proper procedure for this so I can do it at will instead of by accident. Seems useful.

Unroot without USB capabilities?

I'm stuck. My phone has not had USB functionality for a long time now. I've tried everything (reinstalling drivers, factory reset, switching cables, different roms, etc.) and it still won't work. Now it's doing other things that piss me off.

Since I can't use USB to unroot, I can't use the all-in-one tool or ADB. I have used the "HTC Thunderbolt Restore" app from the market in the past with success but now for some reason it keeps crashing. Even after I've reset everything and installed stock rooted roms.

So my question is... Is there any way to get the protected s-off bootloader back to s-on and completely stock?

So a couple of weeks aga I notice that my data radio is not working properly. It will go to 4g for a minute and then drop to come back up as 1x to drop and come to 3g. usually dropping whenever I need the internet. Then a few days back people start complaining about the noise when I am talking to them. How they cannot understand what I am saying it is so noisy etc. Sounds perfect on my end though. I called it from a land line to see what they were complaining about and yes the phone was unusable.

So I think to myself, maybe the rom or radio have been corrupted. So I start loading different roms and radios. Nothing has helped.

The phone is basically useless for making calls and seems to be a little better for data stuff. Any ideas? Is the phone gone for good and time to move on to something newer? (although I don't really like any of the phones Verizon has out at the moment.)

So can I get this working again?

as of now I have:
NuBorn_Rom v 5 and LTE_CDMA_702.605.10710 radio which Santod recommended for use with the rom. Still the same problem although my data radios seem to be working SLIGHTLY better. (oops. Just had my first forced reboot with this rom while pulling up the technical details. hmmm.)

specs:
Phone is rooted.
Running the rom and radios listed above.
android ver 4.0.4
htc sence ver. 3.6
Softwarre number NuBorN_Rom Beta 5.0_041313
PRI Ver 1.41_002.1.65_002
PRL Ver. 15211
ERI Ver. 5
Kernal Version 3.0.16g65bd5ca
Baseband Version2.03.00.0201r.0.002.02.1211r

OK, my phone is "stock". I haven't rooted, unrooted, hacked, cracked, or anything else. I have a few apps, the newest of which is like 3 months old (with the exception of Angry Birds Friends. Yeah, I'm an AB addict).

It does updates automatically, and has done them all, as far as I'm aware (at least I'm not getting any messages about "updates need to be done")

Today, I went to go lay down with the kid for a bit, and put the phone on the dresser. Battery was around 70%.

Getting up, I go to look at my phone. It won't wake up. I try several more times, and it won't wake up. If I hold the power button down, I get a short vibration, but that's it.

I took my the battery out for about 30 seconds. Same result. 5 minutes, same. 15 minutes, same. 30 minutes, same.

I have insurance, but, with Verizon, it's still going to end up costing me about $100. And I'd rather have MY phone, you know?

Over the weekend my phone died. When trying to charge it with my car charger, it didn't seem to want to hold a charge. I would either get a flashing orange light or a flashing green and orange light. I was camping, so I just left it in the car and didn't try much towards fixing it.

After charging it in my car on the way home, I was able to get it to a point where I could turn the phone on, but the screen would be very dim and the touch screen would not respond. Today, I am able to turn the phone on and the screen lights up all the way, but the touch screen still does not respond. I have tried pulling the battery and have done a hard reset, but it still won't work. Twice I've gotten it to work for a few minutes after turning the phone on, but then it stops responding again.

From what I've read, it seems like this would be the digitizer... but are there any other possibilities I should think about before I go that route?
