Awesome, will give it a go. Much appreciated, Sid. ADW is excellent but want to try the others to see which one has the smallest memory footprint.

Btw, how about some alternatives for the built-in/HTC sense keyboards? Swiftkey X is a great choice with very good word prediction. Swype beta is also a good one and now works great with the Tbolt.

Doh! Good catch. I use Flex T9 myself since I like to trace, but it's worth mentioning Swiftkey X and Swype. There are a couple of others as well (GO Keyboard, for example).

    FM-Radio:

[QUOTE=sidsixseven;58851]Are you actually using Spirit FM Radio? I know it works on the Incredible and several other HTC phones but I haven't tried it on the Thunderbolt and I know it doesn't work on all phones. I also have a suspicion that you could backup FM Radio in Titanium Backup on a Sense ROM and restore it later. I haven't tried either option, so I wasn't going to offer that advice in the OP. If you can confirm it works for me, I'll add it to the list in the original post.

Yes, I am actually using it. I'm not on a tiered data plan (yet!?), but I would think that anyone who is would be using the FM-Radio. You're probably right about restoring the HTC FM-Radio to a Sense ROM via TB backup, and I wish I had thought to try that during my hour-long flirtation with BAMF Remix. Would not have been sufficient inducement to stick with a Sense ROM, though.

Keyboard: SmartKeyboard gets my recommendation and, as an urban texting pedestrian, I can tell you that I'm picky about my touchscreen keyboard. : )

I also like Handcent for messaging, have used this since my I had my Moto Droid

For Calendar I like CalendarPad but now that I'm reading about Jorte I may be trying that.

I also like Color Note for notes, there's the option for a check list or just text, and you can set reminders, which I love!

I like doubletwist for music, I've been using the player a lot in the last few weeks and really like it and you can d/l (paid) airsync.

All this other stuff is way over my head LOL

Original post updated with some of the suggestions:

    Jorte
    Touchdown
Agile Lock Free (Sense 3.0 lockscreen)
    Spirit FM Radio
    doubleTwist
    PowerAmp
    Added a keyboard section

UPDATE: I also just added three Camera apps to the list:

    Camera 360 Free (recommended)
    Action Snap
    HDR Camera

Keep the suggestions coming and I'll make sure they get included!

I also wanted to post up some screenshots from the Market to give people an idea of how different things can look with an alternate Home screen. It's worth pointing out that all of these themes are available on the market and in most cases, you can actually combine themes and flavors with other stuff to create an entirely different look. I just wanted to provide some example screenshots of what is easily available for download in the market.

    EXAMPLE ADW EX Launcher Themes:

    EXAMPLE GO Launcher EX Themes:

    EXAMPLE Launcher Pro Plus Themes:

Gotta add UberMusic into the list for music players. I've been using it since beta and now it's on the market... For 3 dollas (yea I know but it's worth it). It's from Federico, the same homie who made Launcher Pro.

It's simple (zune style) , has about 6 widget size options, and you can even download THEMES for this!

Sid, I want to thank you for starting this post. Your guide (or article) provides the perfect roadmap to getting started on using ASOP ROMs. Having now used a couple of ASOP ROMs (thanks also to the new Boot Manager app which has streamlined this process) and using some of your suggestions, I can truly understand and appreciate the differences in the ROMs. Thanks again for sharing some of your knowledge and helping people like me gain the confidence to move forward using these types of ROMs.

Tallica, Sele, Capt D, Jim M, I think this post should be a sticky and/or be posted as a guide.
