The single most important value to rooting is FREEDOM. Having a rooted phone unlocks a world of possibilities as to what you can do with your phone. It frees you from being dependent on what HTC or Verizon feels like offering you. On my three present rooted phones, I had all of the cool features *months* before Motorola felt like offering them, courtesy of the excellent developers who acquired system dumps and incorporated the best features into their roms. When Motorola or HTC finally got around to sending out an OTA update (which I refused), it was a case of ::Yawn!:: No thanks, been there/done that. I'd already HAD those features for a couple of months, and the OTA update was covering old news.

On a scale of 1-10, what are the chances of bricking the device? 10 being the highest chance.

As long as you are careful, and follow the instructions to the LETTER, rooting of any Android phone is reasonably safe. You need to read everything you can lay your hands on regarding rooting the particular phone you're talking about (I've no idea, TODAY, how to root a T-Bolt) and then, when you're sure that you understand things, cautiously proceed. Most of the people on this forum have extensive experience rooting their android phones, so if you do get in a bind, simply come online and ask for help. It will be quickly offered. That's the nice thing about a place like this - friendly people, who know their stuff.
