How to get 6 signal bar icon on GB?

If its a GB ROM, there are signal icons in SystemUI.apk, framework-res/drawable-hdpi, and (I think) in com.HTC.resources. I have yet to get my changes to stick. My changes show until the phone connects to the network then they revert to default for the ROM.

@slim thats what i've read from all the different threads
on the mod.i know how to replace the icons, but its the actually
xml files, services.jar & or smali files that I have no idea on :/

I have tried to look at the roms that already have it
but i don't know what exact files they edited, which is the tough part.
