I decided to take a look at the last software update that was released for the thunderbolt from here:

One Last HTC Thunderbolt Software Update Leaks Before Launch - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

    PG05IMG_Mecha_VERIZON_WWE_1.12.605.9_Radio_1.16.00 .0223r_NV_8k_1.41_9k_1.64_release_176865_signed.zi p - 911SnIpEr

and noticed on the download site it took me to that the radio numbers are the same but the software number is 1.12.605.9 and on my thunderbolt it reads 1.12.605.6??? Could this be the software fix for the battery issues or something better? Anybody care to give it a shot and install on there thunderbolt and reply back with results?

No No No do not try to use *228 it will not work. With the new 4g phones and the need for the sim card for the 4g *228 does not work. Basically there is no way for us to update our "roaming" (which is what *228 really did, it did not update our service or reception). If you are having signal issues or reception issues, I suggest you call VZW.

    XOOM - rooted
    THUNDERBOLT - rooted!!

The first set of numbers should be the hboot version (1.12.605.9)
The second is obviously the radio version (1.16.00.0223r)

It was the radio firmware that caused the massive battery drain (trying to continuously find 4G service)

The Pre-Production Thunderbolt had Radio version 1.02.00.0103-2r

Thereleased Thunderbolt has Radio version 1.07.00.0108r (or newer)

Can you verify your Radio version on the bootloader screen?

    Mine says:
    Hboot 1.04
    Radio 1.16.00.0223r

if the first set of numbers is the hboot its reading 1.04.0000 but in the pic the last numbers are .2000???

    the radio is 1.16.00.0223r

so this obviously has to be a update of some sort???

    Yeah.... you have the latest.

I woudn't worry about the hboot. It only handles the bootloader menu and the flashing of recovery images (or other images). Nothing to do with the radio or 4G stuff. They probably did some changes to hboot so they could root it.

It may be an update of some kind.... but contains the same radio version that you already have. So I wouldn't expect it to fix any problems.

HTC and Verizon probably will eventually get around to an OTA update to fix a few bugs.

I have had 4 different phones since I got my current job. My EVO held service anywhere, and was consitantly about 1mb/s download, my droid and droid X had decent service, but the speeds were about .5Mb/s Now my Thunderbolt seems to have hardly anything all the time and spends most of the time switching between 4G and 3G... And because of that the battery life is horrible... I unplug the phone at 11pm and by 3Am with limited use I am at 5%... If my extended battery ever shows up I'm sure I will be able to make it, but as of right now I am tethered to a wall basically all night...

Also, does anyone else notice that restarting the phone knocks about 10% off the battery? I restarted my phone last night at 22% battery, when it was all booted back up I was at 10%...
