Never both though. I live in a 3g area so the 4G drain everyone talks about can't be the problem. And I really don't have many programs running in the background other than the stock OS stuff. I also have juice defender running in aggressive mode as well.
Check this thread: Battery drain tricks / suggestions......
Covers almost every possible battery saving tip for this phone. As stated in the thread, you may not want to follow EVERY suggestion because some disable features that make it "smart." Other than removing all crapware VZW put on the phone, there isn't going to be any software update that will make drastic changes. Simple fact is the stock battery is under powered for such a device, especially a 4.3in screen 1st generation LTE device. The best solution is hardware: the extended battery.
Lastly, if you're only in a 3G area, go to the market and search for "LTE on/off." It's not really an app, just a shortcut to the phone's menu which toggles between data modes. Until Google/HTC/Verizon make a pretty GUI for it, there are no changes for this. Set the mode to "CDMA auto (PRL)" and that will lock the phone into 3G or 1X only. Left on default, the phone does periodically scan for a 4G signal which also cuts into the battery. So if you're nowhere near a 4G area, it's best to keep it there.

Also forgot to mention for those of you who still have the blockbuster app installed. Open the app, let it update if it says so. Open it again, go to settings and turn off "content update." This should also help with battery life.
Additionally, disabling assisted dialing appears to increase battery life (Sense based only): Another Tip to save your battery, and a question.

This is a problem I noted with mine even before the first update. Husband thought I was nuts because his has always seemed to charge over the usb. He grabbed the cord I was using and found that he had the same issue. We had been using the same kind of usb cable, but mine just seemed to be a bad cable. Could be something has gone wrong with your cable and not really anything to do with the update. Just a thought....

Just played around with this... Scenario 1: cable plugged into wall via usb wall adapter. Result: normal. Scenario 2: plugged into back of a dell tower. Result: normal. Scenario 3: plugged into usb port on keyboard. Result: unbelievably slow charge. After an hour of heavy use, I actually lost 1%. I can't say whether or not this has anything to do with the update, since I never tried the keyboard usb port prior. But my guess is the output amp is low on devices like keyboards and monitors?

Could be the case, but I have never charged on a keyboard or monitor. Mine is on the tower itself or laptop usb. Both of those are equally slow for me with the cable I had been using.

Well, I have gotten into the habit of turning off mobile network whenever I'm not using my phone & this was helping. But today I forgot & left it on almost all day with almost no difference in battery life. Not sure if it has to do with the update or not but I never got that good before it with mobile network enabled. I hope yours improves!

To my knowledge 4G uses more power than 3G, so setting to 3G when not using Internet services may help.
