    Unwanted weather alerts

I have the Weather Underground app. The Weather Channel took them over. I suddenly started getting severe weather alerts. A big red triangle shows up in the status bar, and even after deleting the message, the only way I can find to get rid of it is to uninstall the WU app. Anyone else have this happening? Does anyone know how how to block the messages? There is no phone number associated with the message. Thanks.

If it shows up as a text message (under messages that is) then that is the National Weather Service (NWS). It is a new system that just went into service June 28th.

You can not turn them off.

Thank you. The red triangle is huge and takes up two spaces in the status bar, and now I find that I have to reboot to remove it. Also the audio warning sounds like a claxon horn. It scared the heck out of me. I actually dropped my phone the first time. Darn government.

The notification usually lasts as long as the alert, but you can try to remove it early by going to messages, and deleting the message

Cool How to disable severe weather alert notifications

If you didn't download any weather apps and you are still getting unwanted weather alerts, this will stop them:
    1) From your home screen, open text messages.
    2) Hit the "menu" button.
    3) Hit "settings".
    4) Hit "emergency alerts".
    5) Uncheck all the alerts you don't want.
    6) You're done... Go back to your home sreen and enjoy no more unwanted alerts (except presidential alerts, you can't stop those). And you may want to delete all the unwanted alerts (they are autosaved as text messages).

What if you do not have an emergency alert in settings? I'm running 2.3.4 and can't figure out how to do this.

I believe you are experiencing alerts from the weather channel app. In the settings of that app you can disable severe weather alerts. In the bottom bar of the app scroll all they way right and you'll see settings.

I dunno, I was pretty happy to get that tornado warning last week. I wouldn't have known about it at work otherwise.

    Emergency Alerts Solved!!!!!

After never ending alerts all night long....
After 45 minutes on the phone with Verizon we have found out how to turn off the Emergency Alerts on the HTC Thunderbolt.

Go to Messages (either in apps or in your shortcuts on your home screen)
    Press Menu
    Then press Settings
    then Emergency Alerts
Then Uncheck: Extreme, Severe, and Amber Alerts

You'll notice you cannot uncheck presidential level alerts... Nothing you can do about that.
You'd probably want to know if one of those happens anyway.

    Hope this helps!

Also here's some info on why it's happening: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dro...ive-month.html
