Our Position on the New Rooting Method

I have wrote this information in so many different threads now that I felt the need to post this one last time in a thread of it's on. I'm not trying to start any arguments or persuade anyone to do anything with this thread, I just want everyone to know the Rescue Squad's thoughts on the latest rooting method available for our device.

You Rescue Squad Team has been in constant contact with each other for the past 48 hours or so discussing these issues and I think that I can say that we are all in agreement with the following:

The latest Revolutionary Rooting Method for the thunderbolt is exciting. This program has been developed by some of the best that the android community has and we all respect the work that they have done in the past and continue to do. Because of the background and past performance of these individuals, we would not hesitate using the program to root our devices. This is a good program, and even though it is still a developer release it appears to be a solid application. We look forward to the actual release where the process will be made even more user friendly.

This method of rooting your phone replaces the bootloader on your device with one that prevents you from overwriting your bootloader and loosing root access, commonly known as s-off. This is a big advantage to users because if you do accept a VZ update by mistake, it will not ruin your root access. However, this makes unrooting the device a bit more difficult than if you had rooted with a previous method.

The Rescue Squad Team is currently trying to walk through the process of rooting and then unrooting using these new methods. However, keep in mind that we all do this as volunteers and we have other commitments that must be taking care of as well. Once we are able to do this ourselves, we will present a complete step by step write up on the process. (Yes there have been some already written and we appreciate that and will use those as a guide to walk us through the process)

Until the Rescue Squad is able to complete these steps on our own device, we will not be providing support for un-rooting the new bootloader.

So what all this means is that if you want to root your phone, you can use the new method without worrying about messing up your phone. If you need help in restoring your phone to stock, then unfortunately we will not be able to help you until we walk through the process. We just don't feel comfortable giving someone advice based on what is supposed to work, without trying it ourselves.

Hopefully, everyone will understand and respect the fact that we wish to be fully knowledgeable on any process before giving someone assistance.

    Thank you,
    Your Thunderbolt Rescue Squad

Thanks, but don't get the impression that my write-up is the best method to use. In fact I don't think it is. I think the new method is safer and easier to use. We just cannot provide support until we work through it ourself.

This sticky is a little outdated now...it could probably (if the RS wants) be deleted. It has served it's purpose well.
