Just got the phone Saturday and I'm not real happy.
Love the screen, speed and I'm getting accustomed to not having a keyboard which I thought would be my main dislike. (previous D1 owner).
Hate the battery life (even with the ugly extended battery that I bought).
My new phone and new car don't seem to like each other (BT worked fine with D1).
Hate the extra crap on the phone and not sure I want to root (never felt the need to with the D1).
Not comfortable with some of the settings (may get better over time).
I have a little over a week to make a final decision. It will be hard to go back to the smaller screen, but I have to be able to use bluetooth in my car and this thing has to last longer battery-wise.

HTC adds a lot to their phones. i hated it before i got this phone, came from a D1 also. after a few days i got used to it and liked. only way to get rid of the bloatware is root. batteries sometimes need a few cycles to work good, the stock battery is bad, some people are report it being great though. the extended works good for me, a lot depends if your 4G or 3G, WIFI or not, GPS on screen brightness, all that fun stuff. you can root just to get rid of the bloatware, no need for a rom.

Sorry to hear your not liking it so far. I'm also coming from a D1 and I really like the phone. I was able to connect my jawbone with no problems and the battery life is actually better on the thunderbolt for me. Maybe you got a bad one. My battery usually lasts all day for me, but I'll have to charge it in the evening if I use it heavily. I also rooted my phone which seemed to help the battery life and it got rid of all the bloatware that came with the phone so I would recommend rooting if you understand adb. I hope it all works out for you and if you have any questions about rooting, I'm sure there are a lot of people on this forum that would be more than happy to help including me. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. The phone is definitely a lot faster than the D1 and the screen is a lot nicer. Are the 4 static icons at the bottom supposed to light up (mine don't)? I was hoping that a one click root solution would be available, but I haven't seen one. I never rooted the D1, but I think I would be willing to try with this one if it helps battery life. I WANT to like this phone.

No mine do not light up either. I'll be honest, it isn't that hard to root and they have a step by step video that makes it really easy to do. That's what helped me because I wasn't very familiar with adb.

there have been rumors to an OTA update to help with the battery issues. i would hope so as its the biggest issue with this phone. yes those keys should light up, check setting incase theres one that turns them off and it got selected somehow. the rooting isnt really that hard, but if you have never done it that way it might be a little intimidating. i used easy root on my D1 but i found a really good walkthrough for rooting my TB and it worked, on the second try. it really is a great phone but coming from a D1 its a lot different. HTC adds a lot to their phones, but most of what they add are apps i had on my D1 i dont need anymore.

how about a 3 click root? It takes the manual intructions and automates the process.

If you don't feel like rooting, there is a way to remove the CityID without rooting. Just click on the link in my signature for instructions.
